Can your files really be updated in 3 different places at once?

Yes they can with a useful little program I came across called Dropbox. This works with Windows, Mac, Linux and iPhone. With a basic free account they give you 2GB of space to store any type of files you choose. These files can then be accessed from anywhere on any computer and long as you have the Dropbox application installed on your pc. You can always pay to upgrade to more storage.I personally have found that the 2GB is enough for me it's like I always have a flash drive with me. It's great for transferring pictures, songs, files, power point presentations, etc. quickly from one pc to another. One you save, copy or drag the file into your Dropbox folder it instantly updates it on all yours computer at once, yes ALL of them. So that means your files are in all 3 places (or how ever many computers you installed Dropbox on) at the same time. It's also great for an online backup of your personal files.I posted a quick 2min video below that explains exactly what Dropbox is.

  1. That's really interesting and I'm going to sign up. I have been using mozy free edition to back up my quickbooks files. I think from watching the video it should be pretty straight forward.

  2. Don't you just love the CommonCraft videos? They net things out so well - really pack punch! Drop Box does look interesting. But it would seem that for it to work all my computers would have to be online all the time. Either that or when I boot I would have to wait for the sync to finish before I could start working - and if I was storing a lot a graphics that might take a long time. Have you experienced anything like that, Jen?

  3. your computers do all need to be online for them to sync immediately, but as soon as you log on it will do the sync for you, most of the time it doesn't take more then a few seconds usually, I haven't done anything to graphic intensive to test it. I mainly use it for pics, songs and docs.

  4. This was a very interesting and an attention getting blog. I might check out Dropbox as well. Before I had a Vista laptop all my computers networked just fine but now that I have one XP and one Vista I have multiple issues so this might be the answer.

  5. Hey Karen, yes Vista doesn't always "play nice" with other Windows OS's. If you ever get a chance to upgrade to Windows 7 it has an awesome feature called Home group and it automatically networks all your computers in that group and you can share out folders, printers, whatever you choose. If you ever want more info on it let me know.

  6. Thanks for posting the site It is one of the better online storage sites that I have used. I regularly use multiple computer and I do not like caring to many things with me at once.
